When Night Comes (Jack Turner Suspense #1) by Dan Walsh

My rating: 3.75/5

Unexplainable bad dreams. Suspicious deaths. Startling occurrences. When Night Comes by Dan Walsh is an exhilarating novel, full of mystery, suspense, and a touch of romance.

Set during modern day in the quaint town of Culpepper, Georgia, main character Jack Turner, an acclaimed military history expert, returns to the town as a guest lecturer at Culpepper University, where his previous professor invited him. Shortly after his arrival, he begins to have mysterious dreams that invade his reality. Previous acquaintance, Rachel Cook, reemerges in his life, as a series of shocking deaths occur in Culpepper that stuns the small community.  As Jack and Rachel discover a deadly scheme, their acquaintance turns into a friendly liaison that could potentially flourish into a relationship if they manage to survive.

“There was no fruit in regret. Nothing to be gained by living in the past” –When Night Comes by Dan Walsh.

When Night Comes is a fast paced, page-turning novel that keeps the reader engaged and intrigued. Although the plot is not difficult to resolve, the novel remains entertaining. Written with provocative descriptive narratives, I especially enjoyed the gripping military scenes. There was not much Christian content in the story, just a sprinkle, however the plot is clean with no inappropriately explicit scenes. I found the character development to be substantial, not intricate. The main character and plot were intriguing enough for me to read the next book in the four-part series. I recommend this book to those who enjoy suspense, with a hint of history and romance.
