The Letter Keeper by Charles Martin

My rating: 5/5

An incredible novel of courage and hope, The Letter Keeper by Charles Martin is the superbly written second book in the three-part ‘Murphy Shepherd Series’. This impressively composed story emphasizes the significance of the biblical parable (Matthew 18:12-13) of leaving the ninety-nine to find the one. Interwoven with themes of bravery, survival, and recovery, the story will certainly resonate in the heart of the reader.

“We always leave the ninety-nine to find the one. Why? Because the needs of one outweigh those of the many” (Bones, The Letter Keeper).

Readers are immediately immersed into the heroic life of Murphy, as he continues his mission to rescue individuals captured and forced into the devastation of sex trafficking. While honorably fulfilling his duty in rescuing and aiding in the emotional healing of the victims, Murphy finds himself in perilous situations, in which the danger becomes distinct and threatens to destroy those he is closest to. Faced with insurmountable perils, Murphy is left fighting for the lives of others as well as his own.

Once again, I am extremely impressed by the masterful storytelling skills of author Charles Martin. His ability to create memorable characters, develop enthralling plots, and inclusion of riveting imagery is quite admirable. Although the story does not have a great deal of faith content, there are aspects of the narrative that highlights the significance of what it means to love like Christ. The story is adequately paced and includes enjoyable heart-pounding moments that keeps the reader thoroughly immersed throughout the entire novel. I highly recommend this novel.
