Sword of David by James R. Dale

My rating: 3/5

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come (2 Timothy 3:1, KJV).

Framed around the theological biblical doctrine of eschatology, or the events outlined in the Bible concerning the end times, Sword of David by James R. Dale is an intriguing story, one that is filled with several heart racing scenes, with themes of salvation, love, and restoration. The story follows the main character, Jack Braedan, as his life takes a dramatic turn when the world plummets into chaos during the “Event”. Jack soon realizes that these events are prophetically indicated in the Bible. This truth changes his outlook on life and results in a spiritual awakening that transforms his life. Determined to survive the chaos, while protecting and saving other survivors, Jack embarks on a valorous journey. I give this book a strong 3.5 rating.

I enjoyed the substantial inclusion of biblical wisdom and references throughout the entire novel. Although this is a fictional account of the end-time period of the great tribulation, the inclusion of biblical scriptural references diminishes the assumption that the author merely included his personal idea of end times prophecy within the plot. However, the addition of biblical scriptures supports the idea that the plot was founded on biblical prophecy.

There are some aspects of the novel that prevented a four-star rating. For instance, there were multiple grammatical errors within the story, that was a bit annoying to read. There were also points in the novel that were a bit slow paced. Considering the synopsis and the small number of pages of the book, the story could have been more consistently fast paced. However, Dale excellently established character development, that kept me intrigued with the plot. The end of the story provided a thrilling cliff hanger, that makes me intrigued to read the next book in the series. I like this book and recommend it to others.
