True to the title, The Libyan Diversion by Joel C. Rosenberg is the fifth installment in the Marcus Ryker series. A thrilling story, in which main character Agent Marcus Ryker reemerges as a fearless hero as he works to thwart the plans of a ruthless international terrorist group from attacking thousands of Americans attending a religious gathering in Chicago. This titillating novel will keep the reader on the edge of their seat with suspense, action, and intrigue.
After a successful mission targeting the most wanted terrorist leader in the world, Marcus Ryker finds himself back amongst the highest-ranking officials in the United States government, with news that may result in the capture of Abu Nakba, the founder and leader of the deadly terrorist group named Kairos. Ryker claims that his team was able to locate the leader and seeks approval to eliminate him. With much apprehension from the U.S. government, he is given permission to proceed with the mission. The operation turns out to be dangerous, grueling, and deadly. With years of intense training as a Marine and Secret Service agent, Ryker’s strength, intelligence, and skill will be tested against the brutal plans of the terrorist group.
The Libyan Diversion is a well written novel with fast-paced action and enthralling scenes throughout the plot. Considered Christian fiction, the storyline had very little inclusion of Christian faith content in the story. I would have preferred to read Marcus Ryker exhibiting a little more of his Christian faith in the story, especially as he faced highly dangerous events. He could have been depicted praying and/or relying on the strength and wisdom of the Lord when he faced deadly situations. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading the sixth installment in the series. There was a touch of clean romance included in the plot, as well as chilling terroristic events that were realistically violent and lethal. If you enjoy a suspenseful novel, with military and political elements, you will love this book.
