Wings of the Wind (Out From Egypt #3) by Connilyn Cossette

My rating: 4.75/5

Enthralling and inspiring, Wings of the Wind by Connilyn Cossette, is a captivating story that points to the encompassing mercy and sovereignty of the Lord, despite adverse circumstances. The last installment in the ‘Out from Egypt’ series, the novel radiates a riveting plot and emits an unforgettable story of courage and redemption.

Wings of the Wind is a gripping story written in first person narrative from the perspective of two main characters, Alanah and Tobiah. Alanah is a fiery young Canaanite woman, who has experienced several devastations in her life. Having recently lost her father and brothers to a war against the Hebrews, Alanah is left destitute and driven by sheer hatred towards the Hebrews, whom she holds responsible for the deaths of her family. She decides to seek revenge by disguising herself as a man and fighting in the Canaanites war against the Hebrews. When she sustains an injury in the battle that leaves her temporarily immobile, she never suspects to receive assistance from a fierce soldier in the Hebrew army. Alanah is confronted with her ruthlessly hardened heart that will either propel her to deliverance from the strongholds of her past and into God’s purpose for her life or catapult her into a life of shame and regrets.

Tobiah is a strong Hebrew warrior, whose devotion to Yahweh and the defeat of His enemies fuels his drive during combat. When he stumbles upon an injured enemy soldier whom he quickly discovers is a woman, he does the unthinkable. He rescues her and brings her back to the Hebrew camp for medical assistance. He soon makes a significant decision that will change the course of his life forever.

Wings of the Wind is a fast-paced novel with thrilling scenes and descriptive settings. There is an abundance of inspiring Christian faith content depicted in the plot, including mentions of a few biblical figures such as Joshua and Moses. There are also descriptions of character deliverance from shame and despair, growth in faith, and the Lord’s merciful redemption upon the seemingly undeserving. Difficult topics such as human life sacrifice, sex slavery, and kidnapping were included in the story, that resulted in a compelling plot. I highly recommend and thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Out from Egypt’ series. I look forward to reading more works by author Connilyn Cossette.

“Yahweh had used me, even when I was an enemy of his people. He had surrounded me in protection, even when I had no regard for my own life. He had swept up the ugly chaff of my life, burned it away, and somehow what was left was worth more than I could ever imagine. The depts of such mercy astounded me” – Wings of the Wind.
