All the Lost Places by Amanda Dykes

My rating: 4.5/5 stars

All the Lost Places by Amanda Dykes is a beautifully written story that intricately weaves themes of redemption, hope, and purpose into an inspiring tale, and emphasizes the transformative discovery of one’s true identity through Christ Jesus.

All the Lost Places consists of a dual timeline scenario that is set in two locations, including San Francisco, CA and Venice, Italy. The story primarily takes place in Venice and is rich in descriptive narration of the setting. The atmospheric environment is portrayed with vivid depictions of the social and cultural surroundings of Venice during the early 1800’s and early 1900’s. Main characters Sebastian Trovato and Daniel Goodman are integral components of the story. They both tackle the central question in the novel, “who am I”? Despite the questioning of their identity and purpose, their hope is restored when their questions are answered through the revelations they receive in God’s perfect timing. With this revelation comes the realization of the emboldening sovereignty of Christ and how the Lord can mercifully transform and renew an imperfect vessel.

“Perhaps you are becoming a new tool for a new work. God is not bound by the way things used to be, Daniel. There is great hope in that” (Vittoria, All the Lost Places).

Written with author Amanda Dykes notable literary skills, All the Lost Places, is a riveting story. The novel is a welcomed slow-paced tale, with intricate character and plot development, that makes the story impressively outstanding. If you enjoy Christian historical fiction that inspiringly points to Jesus, I highly recommend this novel.
