A cryptic letter, an unforeseen inheritance, and an intricate spiritual journey delivers an unforgettable tale in Rooms by James L. Rubart. The story provides a thrilling journey encompassing themes of forgiveness, restoration, and freedom, that engulf the reader during the entirety of the novel.
Matthew 6:24 (ESV): No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Protagonist Micah Taylor is an extremely successful CEO of a renown tech company, RimSoft. While in the prime of his career, he receives a letter that is over twenty years old, from his great uncle Archie, whom he had never met. The letter informs him that he has inherited a brand new, multi-square-foot mansion, built within the last six months, in Cannon Beach, Oregon. A resident in Seattle, Washington, Micah decides to take the couple hour drive to confirm the validity of the letter. Indeed, the house exists, and Micah decides to spend his weekends in the house. However, Micah immediately discovers that this is no ordinary house. There are rooms that access the spiritual world and require him to confront multiple hurts from his past, repair his dissolved faith in the Lord, and compel him to make major decisions that will set the fate of his life. During his visits to Cannon Beach, he meets two people that will radically change his life. Rick is a local who guides him during his spiritual journey in renewing his relationship with God, and Sarah is a Cannon Beach resident who renews his perception of true love.
“Know Him. Grow in intimacy. Follow His voice, and in every decision make the conscious choice to take the narrow path” (Rick, Rooms).
Immersed with biblical content, Rooms is an enthralling story that tackles the significance of faith, the torment of idolatry, as well as the beauty of the restorative love of Christ. This well-paced and finely written novel will cause readers to humbly examine their own faith and personal relationship with Christ. No in a condemning way, but with a grateful heart knowing the unceasing love of Jesus. Although there are spiritual elements in this story, the author depicts them without the inclusion of horror elements and void of scary scenes. This is an impactful story of breakthrough that I highly recommend.
