This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti tackles the complex topic of the existence of angels and demons and the presence of the spiritual realm. An engaging plot that tackles literary themes of good versus evil, courage, and faith, this novel is sure to be impactful and provide Christian spiritual enlightenment.
This Present Darkness is an intriguing story, in which the reader follows a series of perplexing events that take place in a small and secluded town called Ashton. The story follows the lives of several residents of Ashton, as they experience the growingly intense spiritual warfare that is occurring for the gain of control of the town and for their souls. Several protagonists are present in the story, including local newspaper owner Marshall Hogan, fellow newspaper reporter Bernice Kreuger, and local pastor Hank Busch. An intense spiritual battle erupts as Marshall and Bernice uncover an evil plot amongst many prominent residents of Ashton. Hank is a threat to these distinguished townspeople, as he is a true man of God that refuses to compromise his soul regardless of the impending threats and intimidation. The gathering of the ‘Remnant’ in the area, citizens who are genuine people of God, stir significant discomfort amongst the spiritually compromised people of Ashton and the existing demonic entities, as they frequently gather to intervene and pray for the deliverance of the town and townspeople.
Bustling with major Christian faith content, this is a must read for every believer in Christ. The narrative highlights the power of prayer, and the authority people of God have against demonic forces. The story also highlights the ensuing spiritual battle that exists for the souls of mankind. I was impressed with the spiritual wisdom that was incorporated in the narrative. Reading this book allowed me to become more aware of the influence that the spiritual realm has on our lives, and the power in the name of Jesus.
